A Down Day for the Indices
The stock market indices suffered a down day today, but it was very choppy, advancing early in the morning, and then snapping back by midday as well, but pre-FOMC announcement. The indices then backed off into that announcement, vacillated for a bit right after it, and then fell in a 5-wave decline to new session lows, and broke two layers of support on the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 to close precariously near key support at this point, with the NDX having dropped from a high of 2758, reaching new rally highs. They then rolled over to get to 2732, before bouncing to 2738. The S&P 500 dropped from nearly 1510, eventually reaching 1500. They bounced a couple points to 1501.89, but it was a last-minute short-covering move. The market is now precariously in a position to have a more substantial decline, or if support holds, another squeeze to the upside. We’ll see what we get. Net on the day, the Dow was down 44.00 at 13,910.42, the S&P 500 dropped 5.88 at 1501.96, and the Nasdaq 100 was down 4.87 at 2738.71. Advance-declines were 2 to 1 negative on the New York Stock Exchange, and 2 1/2 to 1 negative on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was better than 2 to 1 negative on New York, with total volume of 687 million shares. Nasdaq traded nearly 1.9 billion and had a 12 to 7 negative volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board was mixed, with some severe downside moves as well. Priceline Incorporated (PCLN) was down 5.20 to 695.09, and Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ONXX) down 1.55 to 76.69. Research In Motion Limited (RIMM) was down 1.88 to 13.78, after jumping up to 16.62, on a whopping 223 million shares, after the BlackBerry was announced. Netflix Inc. (NFLX) lost 1.42 to 167.70, Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU) was down 1.69 to 24.87, Apple Inc. (AAPL) down 1.454 to 456.83 to close not far off the low for the day. Ultra-longs got hit. The Direxion Daily Small Cap Bull 3X Shares (TNA) lost 2.74 to 74.86, and the Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 1.58 to 142.47. The ProShares UltraShort Silver (ZSL) gave back 1.87 to 44.20. So it was a big reversal day for sure. There were some gainers as well. Amazon Inc. (AMZN) jumped 12.41 to 272.76, on 13 million shares, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR) was up 1.28 to 44.56. There were some large percent gainers on our board today. Meru Networks, Inc. (MERU) popped 1.00 to 3.40, or 42%, on 2.2 million shares. Freescale Semiconductor, Ltd. (FSL) advanced 1.84 to 14.23, or 15%, on 5.4 million shares. Multimedia Games Inc. (MGAM) gained 2.43 to 16.72, or 17%, on 1.1 million shares. Keryx Biopharmaceuticals Inc. (KERX) continued its massive more of late, but finally reached it pinnacle just under 10 at my target at 9.90-10 zone today, and then rolled over hard to close at 8.50, up only 14 cents, on 46 million shares. It was a good reversal day. Aspen Technology, Inc. (AZPN), one of our Top 26 stocks, was up 2.27 to 30.76, Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ISIS) up 1.31 to 14.69, Unisys Corporation (UIS), which we traded today, and 2.83 to 21.75, and Avery Dennison Corporation (AVY) 2.30 to 38.44. ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Fut ETF (UVXY), which we traded, closed up 1.34 to 11.79, or 13%, on 18 million shares, rounding out the gainers for today. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices opened up strong and then rolled over hard and bounced sharply, and by midday they were just below the snapback highs, weren’t able to do much with it, and rolled over for the rest of the session, especially after the FOMC announcement. We’ll see we are going forward, but it was a down day for the indices. Good Trading! Harry |

Mixed, Productive Day
The stock market indices had a very productive session, although it did not look like it at start of the day. Both the Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 sold off sharply and tested support, and then bounced back in a 5-wave rally, with the S&P 500 making a new 5-year high, but the NDX did not. During the course of the rest of the session, the S&P 500 continued to press higher in a rising channel, but the NDX went sideways in a coiling-type pattern. The NDX did break out at the end of the day, getting up near resistance, only to rollover and sell off again, without being able to break through 2750 where resistance lies in the 2750-53 zone. Net on the day, the Dow was up 72.49 at 13,954.42. The S&P 500 reached 1509.35, and closed at 1507.84, up 7.66. The Nasdaq 100 was up just 1.15 at 2743.58, 21 points off the low and 6 points off the high. Advance-declines were 17 to 12 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 13 to 11 positive on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was just under 2 to 1 positive on New York, with total volume of just under 700 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 2 billion and had an 11 to 9 negative plurality. TheTechTrader.com board, was mixed today. The culprit today was Priceline Inc. (PCLN), down 4.69 to 700.29. Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR) was down 1.98 to 43.28, First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) down 1.76 to 27.94, Facebook, Inc. (FB) 1.68 to 30.79, and Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC) 2.07 to 67.82. Amazon Inc. (AMZN) got crushed, down 15.69 to 260.35, although it got as low as near 250.00, and in afterhours post-earnings report, it’s back up to 266 and running. Perhaps we’ll see some firmness tomorrow morning. On the plus side, Google Inc. (GOOG) jumped 2.95 to 753.68, and Apple Inc. (AAPL) was up 8.44 to 458.27, and continuing its rally off the 435.37 support zone. Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU) gained 1.40 to 26.56, Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) up 2.95 to 147.10, and Repros Therapeutics Inc. (RPRX) 1.11 to 12.22. Netflix Inc. (NFLX) jumped 7.01 to 169.12, after reaching down to 156.63, so that was a nice reversal. Other gainers of note included large-percent gainers. Keryx Biopharmaceuticals Inc. (KERX) was up 2.30 to 8.36, or 38%, on 59 million shares. Sierra Wireless Inc. (SWIR) on a unit sale deal, jumped 1.69 to 10.85, or 18 1/2%, on 1.1 million shares. Mindspeed Technologies Inc. (MSPD) gained 62 cents to 4.93, or 14%, on 2.1 million shares. Oil stocks were strong today. Valero Energy Corporation (VLO), which we sold today, was up 4.96 to 43.77, or 13%, on 25 million shares. YPF S.A. (YPF) gained 1.72 to 17.45, or 11%, on 2.6 million shares. Hess Corporation (HES) advanced 5.63 to 68.11, or 9%, on 24 million shares. HollyFrontier Corporation (HFC) closed up 2.55 to 50.50, on 4.2 million shares. Western Refining, Inc. (WNR) popped 1.86 to 32.13, on 2.8 million shares. Phillips 66 (PSX) jumped 2.79 to 59.88, on 8.4 million shares. Delek US Holdings, Inc. (DK) ran 2.74 to 34.41, or 9%, on 1 million shares In addition, gold and silver stocks were firm today. First Majestic Silver Corp. (AG) was up 1.17 to 18.31. Peabody Energy Corp. Mitek Systems Inc. (MITK) spiked up 22 cents to 3.52, and rounded out the gainers today. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were down early, and then back up to resistance, they couldn’t get through, consolidated, broke through on the S&P 500, consolidated in a flag fashion, while the NDX was pulling back, but closed just a couple points off the session high at nearly 1508. Let’s see how it goes on tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

A Sloppy, Choppy Session and Mixed Close
The stock market indices had a sloppy, choppy session and ended mixed at the close. The day started out with a run up to the upside, and then a sharp pullback. They did not make lower lows on the NDX, while the S&P 500 did. However, the S&P 500 even held support at 1496, and the NDX at 2735. They both rallied sharply midday, testing the highs again on the S&P 500, but not getting through, while the NDX made a nominal, new, 3-day high. In the afternoon, the S&P 500 ran back up to the high after the midafternoon test was successful, but they were unable to get through 1503. That’s now a triple top, nearly a quadruple top, in the last couple sessions. Four times they reached the 1503-4 zone. The NDX reached 2751 in the afternoon, not quite the 2753 area from the morning, and then pulled back. In the last hour and the last 10 minutes, in particular, they rolled over a bit to get the Dow and S&P 500 into negative territory. Net on the day, the Dow was down only 14.05 at 13,881.93, 20 points off the low and about 34 points off the high. The Dow was very narrowly mixed today for the most part. The S&P 500 was down 2.78 at 1500.18, just 3 points off the high and 4 points off the low. The Nasdaq 100 was up 5.70 at 2742.43, 9 points off the high and 7 points off the low. Advance-declines were 13 to 17 negative on the New York Stock Exchange, and 14 to 10 positive on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 3 to 2 negative on New York, with total volume of a very light 584 million shares. Nasdaq traded nearly 1.8 billion and had a slight plurality, with a 5 to 3 positive volume ratio. It was a very mixed session today. Nasdaq was the strongest due to Apple Inc. (AAPL) being up 9.95 to 449.83, about 31/2 points off its high, but 14 points off its low. It had a big snapback off 435.60. TheTechTrader.com board, was mixed.Priceline.com Incorporated (PCLN) was down 13.84 to 705.98, Google Inc. (GOOG) lost 2.94 to 750.73, and Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) down 7.95 to 276.04. So there was pressure on a lot of the Nasdaq generals today. Other stocks on the downside included SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA) down 2.27 to 50.96, Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC) down 1.61 to 69.89, Research In Motion Limited (RIMM) 1.36 to 16.18, Uni-Pixel, Inc. (UNXL) 1.34 to 13.33, Netflix Inc. (NFLX) 7.45 to 162.11, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR) 1.05 to 45.26. Stocks on the upside included Facebook, Inc. (FB) up 93 cents to 32.47, on 59 million shares, and Cree, Inc. (CREE) was up 42 cents to 42.39. Other gainers of note on our board today included quite a few big percentage gainers. Some of the stocks we traded today were junior biotech stocks that did very well today. Furiex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (FURX) opened at 31.66 today, ran up to 35.75, and closed 40 cents off the high at 35.34, up 14.10, or 66% on 1.3 million shares, a 2800% increase in volume. Keryx Biopharmaceuticals Inc. (KERX) was up 2.63 to 6.06, or 76.6%, on 67 million shares, a 4500% increase in volume. RadioShack Corp. (RSH) popped 58 cents to 3.22 to 22%, on 14 million shares. Glu Mobile, Inc. (GLUU) ran up 35 cents to 2.65, or 15%, on 5.7 million shares. Asia Entertainment & Resources Ltd. (AERL) spiked up 50 cents to 4.67, or 12%, on a half million shares. Dole Food Company Inc. (DOLE) was up 97 cents to 11.12, ACADIA Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ACAD) up 47 cents to 6.66, Georgia Gulf Corp. (GGC) 4.34 to 54.48, and Given Imaging Ltd. (GIVN) 90 cents to 16.80. Vanda Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (VNDA) was up 1.52 to 24.39, Hess Corporation (HES) up 3.58 to 62.48, Aruba Networks, Inc. (ARUN) 1.03 to 23.70, and CVR Energy, Inc. (CVI) 2.69 to 57.39. The ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Fut ETF (UVXY) jumped 59 cents to 11.15. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were very choppy, up in the morning, down midday, back up in the afternoon, and down at the close. It was a mixed close and a choppy way to start the week. We are very worried about, not only the head-and-shoulders pattern that developed on the Nasdaq 100, but the island reversal at that head could be very ominous. We’ll have to see if the wedge that’s currently in play on the right shoulder breaks or not. If an upside break occurs, all bets are off on a downside move. Right now, the jury is still out and the trend is undecided. We’ll see how it goes on tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

Good Day for Wall Street Despite AAPL
The stock market indices had a very interesting day. The afternoon rally they experienced after the morning’s dip created a positive day, despite AAPL dropping another 10.62 today. The day started out with a pop to the upside. They challenged yesterday’s 5-year high on the S&P 500, and then they pulled back sharply with a 50% retrace from yesterday’s rally low. The Nasdaq 100 actually tripled, testing the 2727 area. When that was successful, it created an afternoon rally, which took the NDX back to the high, but couldn’t get through to confirm the nominal new high on the S&P 500. They then rolled over in the last hour, but in an orderly fashion, only to snap back in the last 10 minutes on the S&P 500 to close at 1502.96, a new closing, 5-year high. The Nasdaq continues to trail, particularly the Nasdaq 100, as Apple remains under pressure, despite the midday rally that saw a snapback from 437 to 447. It stopped, and rolled over, particularly in the last 2 minutes when it got crushed on a couple million shares from 443 down to 435, only to bounce near 440 at the close, closing at 438.88, down 10.62. p>Net on the day, the Dow was up 70.65 at 13,895.98, at the high for the day. The S&P 500 was up 8.14 at 1502.96, about 30 cents off its high. The Nasdaq 100 was up 13.20 at 2736.73, 9 points off its high, but nevertheless, a decent gain with Apple’s loss. Advance-declines were better than 3 to 2 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 13 to 11 positive on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 3 to 1 positive on New York, with total volume of 675 million shares. Nasdaq traded nearly 1.8 billion and had a 2 to 1 positive volume ratio, with advancing volume over declining positive. TheTechTrader.com board had some big gainers today. Netflix Inc. (NFLX) was up 22.70 to 169.56, Priceline Incorporated (PCLN) up 39.27 to 718.82, and Amazon Inc. (AMZN) 10.37 to 283.99, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR), one of our swing trades, which we traded today, was up 2.53 to 46.31. Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC) rose 2.33 to 71.50, SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA) 1.48 to 53.23, Sarepta Therapeutics, Inc. (SRPT) 3.52 to 27.91, and Uni-Pixel, Inc. (UNXL) 70 cents to 14.67, reaching as high as 14.90 at one point. There were a lot of big percentage gainers on our board today. Leading the way, Oshkosh Corporation (OSK) was up 6.50 to 41.08, or 18.8%, on 5.1 million shares. Cimatron Ltd. (CIMT) jumped 1.25 to 7.78, or 19%, on 784,826 shares, a 1300% increase in volume. OCZ Technology Group, Inc. (OCZ) gained 37 cents to 2.39, or 18%, on 10 million shares. Electronics for Imaging, Inc. (EFII) advanced 2.69 to 22.61, or 13 1/2%, on 2 million shares. Molycorp, Inc. (MCP) exploded 94 cents to 8.01, or 13%, on 51 million shares. Terex Corp. (TEX) was up 3.62 to 32.05, Chuy's Holdings, Inc. (CHUY) up 3.15 to 28.38, Synaptics Inc. (SYNA) 3.88 to 36.43, Coherent Inc. (COHR) up 5.46 to 56.78, Cirrus Logic Inc. (CRUS) 2.71 to 29.42, Informatica Corporation (INFA) 3.26 to 36.50, and KLA-Tencor Corporation (KLAC) 4.37 to 56.34. Swing trade Silicon Graphics International Corp. (RMD) 2.84 to 48.31, and Lam Research Corporation (LRCX) 2.32 to 41.84. On the downside, Conns Inc. (CONN) dropped 1.12 to 27.74. And silver continued lower, with the VelocityShares 3x Long Silver ETN (USLV) falling another 1.30 to 27.96. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices opened strong, pulled back, consolidated midday, and then ran back in the afternoon to new highs on the S&P 500, pulled back just before the close, and then snapped back in the last 5 minutes to with the S&P 500 especially strong in the last 7 or 8 minutes. We’ll see how it goes next week. Have a Nice Weekend Good Trading! Harry |

A Mixed Day, AAPL Pulling Nasdaq Down
The stock market had a very interesting, mixed day today, with the indices blue chips up slightly. The Dow was up, the S&P 500 was flat, and the Nasdaq 100 was down as Apple dropped a whopping 63.51, after the earnings report, on 52 million shares. This stock is fractionally under 450.00 in afterhours trading and is pretty much a disaster. It has gone from 705 to 450 in just a couple months. The day started out with the indices down, but they reversed sharply, actually with the S&P 500 going to new highs above 1500 at 1502.27. Nasdaq 100 did manage to bounce back up to 2723 up to 2748, but that 15-point rally was short lived as they rolled over midday into early afternoon, the NDX dropping from 2748 to 2728. The S&P 500 bounced back from 1502 and change to 1491, but held support at 1489.90. Then they rallied the last hour, hour and a half, the S&P 500 jumping back from 1491 to 1498. However, without the NDX, or Apple, participating, they rolled back into the close to finish with a mixed picture. Net on the day, the Dow was up 46.00 at 13,825.33. The S&P 500 was up .01 at 1494.82, 8 points off its high. The Nasdaq 100 was down 38.64 at 2723.53, 25 points off the high and 4 points off the low. Advance-declines were 16 to 13 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 13 1/2 to 11 positive on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 3 to 2 positive on New York, with total volume of 658 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 2 billion and had an 11 to 9 positive volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board, was mixed, mainly because Apple Inc. (AAPL) was down 63.51 to 450.50 at the close. However, Netflix Inc. (NFLX), on solid earnings, was up 43.60 to 146.86, Google Inc. (GOOG) up 12.33 to 758.83, Priceline.com Incorporated (PCLN) 7.29 to 679.55, and Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) 5.51 to 273.62, certainly helped balance the Apple loss. Still, there were 1100 decliners today, many of those Nasdaq stocks. First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) dropped 85 cents to 30.30, and the VelocityShares 3x Long Silver ETN (USLV) down 1.70 to 29.26 Percent gainers on our board included Swift Transportation Company (SWFT), which we traded today, up 2.91 to 13.14, or 28 1/2%, on 15 million shares. iRobot Corporation (IRBT) advanced 1.95 to 23.06, or 9%, on nearly a million shares. Embraer SA (ERJ) 2.60 to 31.16, or 9%, on 3.1 million shares. InvenSense, Inc. (INVN) 1.52 to 14.76, or 11 1/2%, on 7.5 million shares. Travel stocks did well today. Travelzoo Inc. (TZOO), which we also traded, popped 4.67 to 23.88, or 24% on 1.2 million shares. TravelCenters of America LLC (TA) gained 66 cents to 6.66, or 11%, on 1 million shares. Overstock.com Inc. (OSTK) was up 1.05 to 16.43, InterOil Corporation (IOC), which we traded today, up 5.33 to 61.07, Methanex Corp. (MEOH) 2.48 to 34.77, Briggs & Stratton Corporation (BGG) 2.13 to 23.00, and Avnet, Inc. (AVT) 2.23 to 34.40. Other gainers of note included Cash America International, Inc. (CSH), up 3.40 to 46.56, Deluxe Corp. (DLX) up 2.65 to 36.30, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR) 2.70 to 43.78, Brunswick Corporation (BC) 2.41 to 35.22, CVR Energy, Inc. (CVI) 2.72 to 54.11, rounded out our gainers board today. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were down sharply at the opening, snapping back just as sharply to new highs on the S&P 500, but failing to do so on the Nasdaq 100, leaving an island reversal, a very potent, negative pattern on the NDX, and one to pay attention to. Over the next few days we’ll be watching key support on the Nasdaq 100 in the 2700 - 2708 zone. If that is broken, then there’s much more downside to come. The S&P 500 current support is around 1490, followed underneath that by 1484-5 area. If those levels are broken, we may see much steeper pullbacks. Good Trading! Harry |

Stock Market Edges Higher on Poor Technicals and Led by Nasdaq
The stock market indices had an interesting session, closing up on the day on lousy technicals. The day started out with a gap up. Google (GOOG) jumped 40 points, and several stocks like Apple (AAPL), Cree (CREE), and Netflix (NFLX) were a principal cause for the run up, especially on the Nasdaq 100. The S&P 500 backed off early on after an early run up and then backed off to test 1490, but held and ran up to 1496 before backing off into the close. In afterhours, Netflix reported excellent numbers and the stock exploded to the 137-8 range from 103, about 24 more points. We should see an interesting day tomorrow. Net on the day, the Dow was up 66.96 at 13,779.17, 15 points off the high. The S&P 500 was up 2.22 at 1494.78, just 1.5 points off the high. The Nasdaq 100 was up 15.98 at 2762.17, 7 points off its high. Advance-declines were 15 to 14 negative on the New York Stock Exchange, and 14 to 10 negative on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 35 to 27 negative on New York, with total volume of a very light 625 million shares. Nasdaq traded nearly 1.7 billion and had a slight plurality, with a 9 to 8 negative plurality. TheTechTrader.com board was mixed, but there were some interesting stocks today. Apple was up 9.24 to 514.01, trading at 515 in the aftermarket. Google was up 38.63 to 741.50, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) up 8.64 to 204.72, and Netflix 5.45 to 103.26, up 30 points from yesterday’s close. There were some percent gainers today, including Cree, up 7.38 to 40.85, or 22%, on 14.2 million shares. Silicom Ltd. (SILC) gained 3.86 to 23.35, or 20%. Threshold Pharmaceuticals Inc. (THLD) advanced 83 cents to 5.14, or 19%, on 3.4 million shares. Super Micro Computer, Inc. (SMCI) popped 1.96 to 12.48, or 18 1/2%, on 1.5 million shares. Daqo New Energy Corp. (DQ) gained another 1.99 to 14.79, or 15 1/2%. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) closed up 30 cents to 2.75, or 12% on 60 million shares. Other gainers of note included KB Home (KBH) up 1.52 to 18.63, Veeco Instruments Inc. (VECO) up 1.67 to 33.66, Stewart Information Services Corporation (STC) 1.47 to 29.69, and Vipshop Holdings Limited (VIPS) 1.02 to 20.95. These rounded out the gainers on our board today. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices made new highs on the S&P 500, over 1495, a new 5-year high. Nasdaq 100 did spike up and break out this morning to get up to 2769, but failed to hold at that level, and closed at 2761.80. Still, it was up 16 points today, but we expect that to be so sharply higher in the aftermarket, particularly if Apple reports well. We’ll see how it goes. Good Trading! Harry |

A Good Start to the Week
The stock market started out with a thud as the indices dropped sharply, led lower by market generals, such as Apple (AAPL) and Google (GOOG). But the market had a strong, afternoon rally when support held, and when the S&P 500 refused to confirm the NDX. At around 11:30 or so, the NDX reached the session lows, and the S&P 500 reached their lows around 10:00. They went straight up from there with only an afternoon pullback and then a late surge into the close, an explosive surge for the NDX, in particular. Net on the day, the Dow was up 62.43 at 13,712.13, closing at the high for the day. The S&P 500 was up 6.53 at 1492.51, also closing right at the high for the day. The Nasdaq 100 went from 2726 to 2746, and closed within a point of its high, up 2.95. Advance-declines were better than 2 to 1 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 3 to 2 positive on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 3 to 1 positive on New York, with total volume of just under 700 million shares. Nasdaq traded nearly 1 3/4 billion and had a 10 to 7 positive volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board was led by Apple Inc. (AAPL), up 4.77 to 504.77, 3 points off the high, but 8 points off the low. International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) was up 1.61 to 196.08, and got up to 203 1/2 in afterhours, on strong earnings. Research In Motion Limited (RIMM) had a very special, big day today, up 2.06 to 17.90, on 110 million shares. SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA) jumped 1.00 to 49.75, on 4.1 million shares. Other gainers of note included Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) up 1.50 to 145.95, First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) up 1.50 to 31.58, Facebook, Inc. (FB) 1.07 to 30.73, and Dunkin' Brands Group, Inc. (DNKN) 48 cents to 36.22, reaching near its post-IPO high. There were quite a few percent gainers on our board today. Daqo New Energy Corp. (DQ) jumped 2.56 to 12.80, or 25%, on light volume. US Energy Corp. (USEG) gained 40 cents to 2.19, or 22%, on 1.1 million shares, 1300% more volume than usual. Matrix Service Company (MTRX) popped 1.67 to 14.80, or 12%. OM Group Inc. (OMG) exploded 2.73 to 25.91, or 12%, on 3 million shares. Seagate Technology Public Limited Company (STX) gained 2.51 to 37.89, or 7%, on 15 million shares. Cimatron Ltd. (CIMT) advanced 92 cents to 6.47, or 16%, on 1.2 million shares, 4300% increase in volume. Hansen Medical, Inc. (HNSN) gained 31 cents to 2.57, or 13%, on 1.7 million shares. Celsion Corp. (CLSN) climbed 74 cents to 7.74, or 11%, on 1.6 million shares. JinkoSolar Holding Co., Ltd. (JKS) ran 84 cents to 7.73, or 12%. ACADIA Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ACAD) was up 45 cents to 5.67, or 9%, on 2.2 million shares. On the downside, Google Inc. (GOOG) closed down 1.64 to 702.87, but after hours was trading at 736 on earnings. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were up at the opening, but then fell sharply, only to come back with a roar throughout the rest of the session, with the S&P 500 making new 5-year highs, and the Nasdaq 100 surging about 9 points in the last 10 minutes to close right near the session highs going away. It was a good start to the week for the indices. We’ll see how it goes on tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

Good Way to End the Week
The stock market indices had a topsy-turvy day and ended up on the plus side for the blue chips, but still slightly negative on the Nasdaq 100. The day started out with a gap down and then a 5-wave decline to test support on both indices, which just before noon held. They then rallied into early afternoon and consolidated for a couple hours. Late in the day, in the last hour, they exploded, closing at the highs for the day going away. Net on the day, the Dow was up 53.83 at 13,649.85, at the high for the day. The S&P 500 reached its 5-year high at 1485.95, up 5.01, closing at the exact high of the day, some 10 points off the low. The Nasdaq 100 was down 3.91 at 2743.24, 14 points off the low. Advance-declines were almost 2 to 1 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and positive by only 170 issues on Nasdaq. Percent gainers included Daqo New Energy Corp. (DQ), up 1.24 to 10.24, or 14%. Life Technologies Corporation (LIFE) gained 5.82 to 60.79, or 11%, on 16 million shares, on news that they retained investment bankers for possible sale of their company. Movado Group, Inc. Solid Session Despite Late Sell-Off
The stock market indices had an up-day, but gave back a chunk of their gains in the last hour. The day started out with a very steady, sharp move up, and stair-stepped its way up on the S&P 500, but the Nasdaq 100 stalled midday and couldn’t break out. Finally, when it did and took out 2750, running up to 2757, the S&P 500 ran to 1485. The indices double-topped, stalled in that area, and then rolled over in the last hour, with the NDX losing 10 and the S&P 500 backing off about 4. Net on the day, still the Dow was up 84.79 at 13,596.02, 37 points off the high. The S&P 500 was up 8.31 at 1480.94, 4 points off the high. The Nasdaq 100 was up 12.42 at 2747.15, 9 points off its high despite the fact that Apple Inc. (AAPL), Google Inc. (GOOG), and several other stocks were lower. AAPL was down 3.41 to 502.68, and GOOG lost 3.87 to 711.32. Nothing major, but still it certainly didn’t help today. Advance-declines were almost 3 to 1 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 2 to 1 positive on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was better than 2 to 1 positive on New York, and Nasdaq had a 3 to 1 positive volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board included such stocks as Ellie Mae, Inc. (ELLI) up 1.47 to 27.17, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR) up 1.63 to 40.88, and Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC) up 1.27 to 68.37. China Auto Logistic Inc. (CALI) jumped 1.13 to 3.70, or 44%. CBS Corporation (CBS) rose 3.01 to 40.95, on 35 million shares. Other gainers of note included Etablissements Delhaize Fr (DEG) up 4.20 to 46.70, Impac Mortgage Holdings Inc. (IMH) up 1.04 to 12.99 on light volume, Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. (NUS) 3.24 to 45.74, SolarCity Corporation (SCTY) 1.23 to 15.21, Tangoe, Inc. (TNGO) 1.06 to 15.45, ASML Holding NV (ASML) 4.53 to 68.35, Sony Corporation (SNE) 71 cents to 11.91, Donaldson Company, Inc. (DCI) 1.92 to 36.60, and Trex Co. Inc. (TREX) 1.72 to 40.69. On the downside, in addition to those already mentioned, Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ONXX) was down 1.43 to 77.85, and Uni-Pixel, Inc. (UNXL) dropped 1.59 to 16.18. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were up early and stair-stepped their way higher all day until the last hour on the S&P 500. But the NDX stalled midday, although it did finally break out in the afternoon to reach a new, multi-month high. The S&P 500 tagged 1485, a new 5-year high, and backed off to 1481. Nevertheless, it was a positive day with good technicals -- a very solid session, despite the late selloff. We’ll see how it goes on tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

Nasdaq Reverses Course to Lead in Mixed Session
The stock market indices had an interesting session and closed mixed. The overall pattern for the last several sessions shows that we’ve basically been in a big consolidation with a big run-up we had a couple weeks ago. The day started out with a slight move lower, and then they held support and rallied sharply to test resistance. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 backed off and consolidated but held at midday, retested, and then went to new highs for the session, and new, 2-day highs on Nasdaq 100. Apple Inc. (AAPL) rebounded sharply, reaching 506.09 this morning, up 20.16. In addition, Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS), on earnings, was up 5.50 to 141.09, and Priceline Incorporated (PCLN) up 4.49 to 667.84, despite Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) being down 2.97 to 268.93 and Google Inc. (GOOG) down 9.74 to 715.19. That’s what caused a mixed, but positive finish on the Nasdaq 100. Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., (CMG), after earnings, got slam-dunked today. It was down 16.38 to 280.94, or 5 1/2%, on 3 million shares. That was 14 points off the low today, so it recovered about half its losses. But having broken down from a 2-month rising wedge, that could be a bearish indication of lower levels to come on that one. In the afternoon, they rallied to nominal-new, 5-year highs at 1474 on the S&P 500, but far from it on the NDX, reaching only 2742, and they took back the last hour. Net on the day, the Dow was down 23.66 at 13,511.23. The S&P 500 was up .29 at 1472.63, just 1 1/2 points off the high, but 5 off the low. The Nasdaq 100 was up 11.75 at 2734.73, 8 points off the high, and 13 points off the low. Technicals were slightly lower, and advance-declines were 16 to 13 negative on the New York Stock Exchange, and 14 to 10 negative on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 3 to 2 negative on New York, with total volume a very light 585 million shares. Nasdaq traded just under 1.7 billion, and had a slightly positive plurality on advancing volume over declining positive. TheTechTrader.com board, was mixed, but leading the way on the upside was ClearOne, Inc. (CLRO), up 2.35 to 6.78, or 53% on 1.4 million shares, a 6300% increase in volume. Hyperion Therapeutics, Inc. (HPTX) was up 2.32 to 14.32, or 19%, on nearly a half million shares. Christopher & Banks Corporation (CBK) gained 74 cents to 6.41, or 13%, on 2.4 million shares. Unilife Corporation (UNIS) advanced 29 cents to 2.55, or 13%, on 1.2 million shares. Other gainers of note included Uni-Pixel, Inc. (UNXL), one of our favorites, up 1.42 to 17.77. Constant Contact, Inc. (CTCT) added 1.05 to 15.14, Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ALNY) 2.01 to 22.14, Five Below, Inc. (FIVE) 2.57 to 34.40, and Constellation Brands Inc. (STZ) 2.24 to 38.65, Cabela's Incorporated (CAB) rose 2.87 to 49.75, and Cirrus Logic Inc. (CRUS), an AAPL supplier, 1.57 to 29.52. rue21, Inc. (RUE) gained 1.14 to 29.98, NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) 1.01 to 29.30, and Genworth Financial Inc. (GNW), on earnings, 72 cents to 8.85. On the downside, there were no point losers, other than the ones we already mentioned earlier. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were down early, but rallied sharply in the morning, consolidated until midday. They then retested and rallied to session highs with an hour to go, but rolled over into the close to pare back the gains, closing mixed on the session. It was another consolidation day. We’ll see what the indices want to do with Nasdaq 100 still trailing, but playing catch-up today. Good Trading! Harry |

Nasdaq Trails in Mixed, Topsy-Turvy Session
The stock market indices had a topsy-turvy day, but had a big rally, particularly in the blue chips, late in the session. The Nasdaq 100 wouldn’t cooperate because Apple Inc. (AAPL) was under pressure all day, down nearly 16 today near the 52-week lows. The day started out with big-gap downs, and then they went even sharply lower to test the 2710-11 area on the Nasdaq 100, and near 1464 S&P 500. They rallied back, and then retested, the S&P 500 jumping 7 points from 1464 to 1471, while the NDX jumped 15 points. They pulled back much sharper on the NDX in the afternoon to retest support at the 2714-15 area. That held, and the S&P 500 held at a much higher level at 1468, only to rally back to new, 5-year highs nominally at 1473, and closed a point off of that. Net on the day, the Dow was up 27.57 at 13,534.89, 90 points off the low. The S&P 500 was up 1.66 at 1472.34, just one point off the high. The Nasdaq 100 was down 12.72 at 2722.98, 12 points off the low. Advance-declines were almost 3 to 2 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 13 to 11 positive on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 2 to 1 positive on New York, with total volume of a very light 584 million shares. Nasdaq traded nearly 1.8 billion and had a slight positive plurality on advancing volume over declining volume. TheTechTrader.com board, as mentioned, was led lower by Apple Inc. (AAPL), down 25.83 to 485.92, reaching a new, 11-month low of 483.38 today. It’s right in our Fibonacci retracement level at 480 and 483. So this is coming to either a breakdown or a significant reversal. Google Inc. (GOOG) managed to run back from 712 to 735, and closed up 1.68 to 724.93. So that was a reversal. Amazon.comInc. (AMZN) went from 269.30 to 272.72, and closed down 83 cents to 271.90.Priceline.com Incorporated (PCLN) was up 43 cents and closed up $10 off its low at 663.35. It was a decent snapback on some of the large-cap Nasdaq 100 stocks, and as a result, it did bounce but it wasn’t very significant. There is some negative divergent going on here on the Nasdaq 100. It will need to play catch-up tomorrow. Other gainers of note included Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC), up 1.81 to 66.96 on our board, but there weren’t many stocks up as much as a point. However, there were some gainers on the percent-gain leader board, which we follow closely. EnerNOC, Inc. (ENOC) jumped 3.20 to 15.76, or 25 1/2%, on 3 million shares, an 830% increase in volume. Express Inc. (EXPR), on earnings, gained 3.34 to 17.40, or 24%, on 11 million shares, or 500% more than what’s normal for this stock. Big 5 Sporting Goods Corp. (BGFV), also on earnings, gained 1.67 to 14.70, or 13%, on a half million shares. Ruckus Wireless, Inc. (RKUS) continues its monster move, up 2.50 to 24.21, or 11 1/2%, on 1 million shares. Santarus, Inc. (SNTS) closed up 1.24 to 12.52, or 11%, on 4.7 million shares. Genesco Inc. (GCO) was up 4.84 to 61.61, Ixia (XXIA) up 1.50 to 20.74, Arris Group Inc. (ARRS) 1.22 to 16.56, ViroPharma Inc. (VPHM) 1.94 to 26.36, Splunk, Inc. (SPLK) 2.16 to 33.46, and Dell Inc. (DELL), on takeover rumors, up 88 cents to 13.17. Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (INFI), one of our favorites of late, gained 1.88 to 34.81. Deckers Outdoor Corp. (DECK) rose 2.66 to 40.81, and reached 41 at one point. It’s on the verge of a major breakout. On the downside, there weren’t very many to speak of today besides Apple. Netflix Inc. (NFLX) lost 1.75 to 101.69. At its 104 high intraday today, that was nearly double its low of earlier last year. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were sharply lower early on, came back midday and retested in the afternoon. It successfully came on with a bang, particularly with the blue chips. The blue chips turned positive for the session. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

Volatile, Mixed Session
The stock market indices had a volatile and mixed session to finish the day. Apple Inc. (AAPL) and Google Inc. (GOOG) were definitely the culprits today for Nasdaq 100 as AAPL dropped 18.55 to 501.75 and GOOG dropped 16.74 to 723.25,. But with Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) up 4.79 to 272.73, Priceline.com Incorporated (PCLN) up 7.43 to 662.92, and Research In Motion Limited (RIMM) up 1.39 to 14.95, it was kind of a mixed session today. The day started out with a gap down. They then dropped precipitously but bounced back early morning to retest. The S&P 500 did about a 50% retracement, about half of that on the Nasdaq 100. They then they went into coiling-consolidation action, which appeared to indicate lower levels to come. When they could not break support, they started to rally and spiked up in midafternoon, and then had a very sharp move up. They tested the declining topsline and lateral price resistance, but they rolled over hard again into the close, only to bounce back in the last 5 minutes. Net on the day, the Dow was up 18.89 at 13,507.32. The S&P 500 was down 1.37 at 1470.68, 5 points of the low and just a few points off the high. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 12.56 at 2735.56, 11 points off the low and 8 points off the high. Advance-declines were almost dead-even flat on the New York Stock Exchange, and about 100 issues lower on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was not even 3 to 2 negative on New York, with total volume of only 578 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 1.6 8 billion and had a 10 to 8 positive volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board was mixed as we already indicated, but mostly lower by AAPL and GOOG. Other gainers of note include International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) down 1.83 to 192.62, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR) down 1.89 to 39.34, Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) 1.00 to 136.13, Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ONXX) 1.45 to 82.82, and Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC) 2.27 to 65.15. ProShares UltraShort Silver (ZSL) was down 1.85 to 47.08. TheTechTrader.com board was active today. Nothing was up more than 17%, but the Sangamo Biosciences Inc. (SGMO) was up 1.22 to 8.20, or 171/2%. Halozyme Therapeutics, Inc. (HALO) gained 54 cents to 3.85, or 16%, on 3 million shares. TravelCenters of America LLC (TA) advanced 59 cents to 5.59, or 12%. Adept Technology Inc. (ADEP) was up 54 cents to 3.85, or 16%, after reaching as high as 4.31 today. Herbalife Ltd. (HLF) popped 4.06 to 44.08, on 14 million shares. Flowers Foods, Inc. (FLO) gained 2.39 to 27.22, or 10%, on 3.3 million shares. Xyratex Ltd. (XRTX) advanced 70 cents to 9.07, or 8%. Dell Inc. (DELL), on rumors of an equity offer or going private, was up 1.41 to 12.29, or 13%, on 114 million shares. Sears Holdings Corporation (SHLD) rose after the chairman of the company bought shares, up 3.65 to 44.60, or 9%, on 2.6 million shares. Ixia (XXIA), which we traded, spiked to 19.50 earlier in the day, but closed up at 19.24, up 1.58, or 9%, on 2.8 million shares. Verint Systems Inc. (VRNT), on an acquisition, jumped 2.33 to 33.83, and Incyte Corporation (INCY) gained 1.02 to 19.22. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were down sharply early, bounced back, consolidated midday, and then rallied in the afternoon, only to rollover in the last hour, and bounced in the last 5 minutes. It was a strange day, but with the overall consolidation of the last few sessions, the indices now are poised to make a more an important move shortly. We’ll see which way it goes. Good Trading! AAPL Drags Nasdaq Lower in Mixed Session
The stock market indices, particularly the blue chips, managed to rally nicely today, but the Nasdaq failed to follow through. Even late in the session when it looked like the Nasdaq was breaking out to new highs to confirm, it rolled over hard into the close. We ended up down on Nasdaq, with Apple Inc. (AAPL) being the chief culprit, down 15.10 to 527, although Google Inc. (GOOG) was up 14.30 to 737.97. Other stocks in that group did okay, but Apple was a real deterrent. The day started out with a move up, and then a pullback. The Nasdaq 100 went to new lows twice without confirmation from the S&P 500. That led to a midday rally, and then the S&P 500 and Dow consolidated midafternoon bullishly, but the NDX barely held onto support. In the last hour, they did come on to retest the highs for the day, taking them out on the S&P 500 and Dow but not on the NDX. That lack of confirmation led to a late pullback. Net on the day, the Dow was up 43.85 at 13,435.21, 12 points off the high. The S&P 500 was up 7.10 at 1466.47, just a point off the high. The Nasdaq 100 was down 7.77 at 2724.49, 8 points off the low and 8 points off the high, so mid-range. Advance-declines, however, were 3 to 1 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 2 to 1 positive on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 4 to 1 positive on New York, with total volume of 642 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 1.7 billion and had a 2 to 1 positive volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board was mostly higher despite the Nasdaq 100. Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) rose 3.57 to 134.51, and Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ONXX) was up 4.10 to 81.38. The Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) jumped 4.47 to 133.95 and the Direxion Daily Small Cap Bull 3X Shares (TNA) was up 1.31 to 70.55. The leader on our board to was Uni-Pixel, Inc. (UNXL), up 2.85 to 16.95, or 20%, on 1.8 million shares, 900% more volume than normal. That was a very nice trade for that stock. We initiated a swing trade on it this morning under 16. Shippers were strong today. Eagle Bulk Shipping, Inc. (EGLE) was up 46 cents to 2.26, or 25 1/2%, on 2.6 million shares, a 1900% increase in volume. Paragon Shipping Inc. (PRGN) gained 44 cents to 3.00, or 17%. Genco Shipping & Trading Ltd. (GNK) snapped back 28 cents to 4.13, or 8%, on 1.9 million shares. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were vastly different in the morning. The Nasdaq 100 showed pressure and got all the way down to test the 2715-6 zone, but did bounce off of there, while the S&P 500 was pulling back much more gently. The S&P 500 then went to new highs along with the Dow, but the NDX was unable to do so. Nevertheless, it was a positive day for the blue chips, but not so much for Apple and the Nasdaq 100. At the end of the day, however, it was a positive session to end a positive week for the market. We’ll see how it goes on tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

Flat Day All Around
The stock market indices had a strong start. They stair-stepped into midday, but when the S&P 500 made new highs early in the afternoon, the Nasdaq 100 could not and formed a head-and-shoulder intraday-type pattern, and the indices were gullible. Then the FOMC spoke and when they didn’t like what was said, the market rolled over hard. The NDX dropped from 2751 to 2724 and the S&P 500 dropped from 1465 to 1456, only to bounce in the last 15-20 minutes. They firmed up a little bit, but they were still down on the day. Net on the day, the Dow was down 21.19 at 13,391.36, about 33 points off the low. The S&P 500 was up 3.06 at 1459.36. The Nasdaq 100 was up 14.21 at 2732.26. Advance-declines were 17 to 13 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and negative by 100 issues on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was slightly positive on both exchanges. Net-net the market had a flat day all around when you combine all the technicals. TheTechTrader.com board was mixed but there were some outstanding stocks today. The large-cap stocks included Priceline (PCLN), up 10.33 to 648.73, and Amazon Inc. (AMZN), up 1.17 to 258.48. Apple Inc. (AAPL), however, was down 6.93 to 542.10. Netflix Inc. (NFLX) gained 4.58 to 96.59. Solar stocks were very strong today. First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) was up 2.42 to 34.41, and rocketed to 35.60, on 10 million shares. SunPower Corporation (SPWR) was the stock of the day today, up 2.94 to 9.07, or almost 50%, on 22 million shares as they did a solar-power deal with Warren Buffet. LDK Solar Co., Ltd. (LDK) gained 34 cents to 1.92, or 22%, on 9 million shares. Trina Solar Limited (TSL) popped 81 cents to 5.29, or 18%, on 10 million shares. Yingli Green Energy Holding Co. Ltd. (YGE) spiked 40 cents to 2.87, or 16%, on 7.7 million shares. Suntech Power Holdings Co. Ltd. (STP) was up 22 cents to 1.82, or 14%, on 10 million shares. ReneSola Ltd. (SOL) climbed 23 cents to 1.90, or 14%, on 1.8 million shares. JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (JASO) gained 46 cents to 4.97, or 10%, on 1.4 million shares. Guggenheim Solar (TAN) advanced 1.72 to 18.14, or 10%. Other gainers of note included BG Medicine, Inc. (BGMD), up 43 cents to 2.75, or 19%, on 2.8 million shares. Vringo, Inc. (VRNG) closed up 58 cents to 3.50, or 20%, on 10 million shares. Landec Corp. (LNDC) gained 1.54 to 11.36, or 16%, on nearly a million shares. Hot Topic Inc. (HOTT) climbed 1.08 to 10.80, or 11%, on 1.8 million shares. In addition, Ross Stores Inc. (ROST) was up 4.34 to 58.78, Sarepta Therapeutics, Inc. (SRPT) up 1.90 to 28.14, Weight Watchers International, Inc. (WTW) 3.62 to 56.73, Acorda Therapeutics, Inc. (ACOR) 1.78 to 26.95, and Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. (NUS) 2.30 to 39.49. Those rounded out the gainers on our board today. On the downside, Conns Inc. (CONN) was down 1.44 to 28.99, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) 1.08 to 195.27 and the VelocityShares 3x Long Silver ETN (USLV) down 2.09 to 25.50. Those were the only point-plus losers on our board today. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices had a 5-wave move up early on this morning, but by midday Nasdaq 100 could not keep pace with the S&P 500’s new high, and they rolled over sharply after the FOMC meeting and announcement, only to bounce late in the day. However, they were down on the session with the advance-declines positive on New York and slightly negative on Nasdaq, and all the technicals kind of mixed today. Let’s call it a consolidation day and see what happens tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

Fabulous Start to the Year
The stock market indices had a fabulous session to start the year, exploding with big breakaway gaps to the upside as a result of the fiscal cliff deal and relief in terms of a major relief rally. The indices exploded with big gaps up and futures were way up early on. They then reached 2740 on the Nasdaq 100 and 1457 S&P 500, before backing off into midday. When two or three times they tested support intraday, they held and started to move up slowly but surely, and then accelerated. In the last 15 minutes the market exploded to the highs and closed at the highs for the day going away. Net on the day, the Dow was up 308.41 at 13,412.55. The S&P 500 was up 36.23 at 1462.42. Indices Close Well Off Lows
The stock market indices had a very interesting and volatile day. The day started out very quietly. They bounced a little bit, and then rolled over hard, bounced again to resistance, and rolled over hard again in a 3-wave declining movement. They rallied back to resistance, backed off and made higher lows, and then exploded, taking the Nasdaq 100 from 2604 to 2641, and the S&P 500 from 1403 to 1421. At the end of the day in the last five minutes they backed off on testimony by one of the senators, but the indices still came way off the lows, and went positive at one point, but they did pull back. Net on the day, the Dow was down 18.28 at 13,096.31, 132 points off the low. The S&P 500 was down 1.74 at 1418.09, 17 points of its low. The Nasdaq 100 was down 4.24 at 2632.94, 33 points off its low. So it was a very big comeback on all the indices and not a bad close. Advance-declines were negative by about 300 issues on the New York Stock Exchange, and about 330 issues on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 2 to 1 negative on New York, with total volume of 553 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 1.3 billion and had a less 2 to 1 negative volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board was mostly narrow, but there were some interesting gainers today. Leading the way was Enphase Energy, Inc. (ENPH) up 48 cents to 3.51, or 16%. Ruckus Wireless, Inc. (RKUS) had a big day, up 2.04 to 21.98, or 10%, and getting as high as 22 today. Deckers Outdoor Corp. (DECK) jumped 3.23 to 38.11, or 9%, on 4.5 million shares. Low-priced BPZ Resources, Inc. (BPZ) gained 25 cents to 3.03, or 9%, on 2 million shares. Other gainers of note included Bon-Ton Stores Inc. (BONT) up 66 cents to 11.47, Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. (NUS) up 1.96 to 35.16, Chemtura Corporation (CHMT) 94 cents to 21.38, Expedia Inc. (EXPE) 2.37 to 60.30, VIVUS Inc. (VVUS) 51 cents to 13.67, Navistar International Corporation (NAV) 81 cents to 21.05, and Tumi Holdings, Inc. (TUMI) 74 cents to 20.87. On the downside, Google Inc. (GOOG) lost 2.58 to 706.29, but Apple Inc. (AAPL) was up 2.06 to 515.06. Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) was off just 32 cents to 248.31. So the large-cap Nasdaq stocks were kind of flat, and so were the indices as well. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices stair-stepped their way in a 3-wave decline by midday, reaching pull-back lows and key support at 2600 NDX and the 1402 zone on the S&P 500. When they bounced and retested successfully, they then had a late short-covering rally that appeared, and a late one at that. The indices did not manage to get back in the plus column, but they were way off the lows. We’ll see how it goes on tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

Sloppy Day for the Indices
It’s the day after Christmas, but it was no present for stock market indices. After some early morning, slight strength, the indices rolled over hard and dropped sharply to new pullback lows, the Nasdaq 100 dropping from 2663 to 2627, and the S&P 500 from 1429 1/2 to 1416 1/2. At that point, they stair-stepped their way higher, but rolled over in the last hour to take back some of the potential-snapback gains after a 50% retracement failed. Net on the day, the Dow was down 25.03 at 13,114.0. The S&P 500 was down 6.83 at 1419.83. The Nasdaq 100 was down 20.87 at 2637.18. Advance-declines were 2 to 1 negative on the New York Stock Exchange, and 2 to 1 negative on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 5 to 4 negative on New York, with total volume of 450 million shares. Nasdaq traded just over 1 billion and had a 2 to 1 negative volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board was led down by Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), down 9.99 to 248.63. Apple Inc. (AAPL) fell 7.17 to 513.00, and Google Inc. (GOOG) gave back just a small fraction, 63 cents to 708.87. The market generals were weak in general today. Other gainers of note on the downside included Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC), down 1.79 to 58.42, and Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ONXX), down 1.37 to 76.74. On the plus side, some of our swing trades did well. Research In Motion Limited (RIMM) jumped 1.22 to 11.83, or 11 1/2%, on 70.6 million shares. SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA) was up 1.40 to 44.57, First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) up 37 cents to 30.63, Cheniere Energy, Inc. (LNG) 44 cents to 18.32, and Aegerion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AEGR) 48 cents to 25.73. There were some percent gainers on our board as well. Daqo New Energy Corp. (DQ) popped 1.25 to 8.15, or 18%. Low-priced Lucas Energy, Inc. (LEI) gained 30 cents to 1.45, or 26%. AVEO Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AVEO) advanced 67 cents to 7.99, or 10%, on 1.2 million shares and trading as high as 8.40 earlier in the day. ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Fut ETF (UVXY), which we traded today, jumped 2.51 to 25.07, or 11%, on nearly 6.8 million shares. Kronos Worldwide Inc. (KRO) was up 94 cents to 18.47, Universal Display Corp. (PANL) up 78 cents to 25.31, American Vanguard Corp. (AVD) 75 cents to 31.24, Ruckus Wireless, Inc. (RKUS) 1.04 to 19.94, and Polypore International Inc. (PPO) 1.27 to 46.44. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were a little firm at the opening, and then rolled over hard all morning until just before the noon hour when they bounced and moved up. After an up-channel, they rolled over near a 50% retrace level and pulled back into the close to have a sloppy day for the indices, indeed. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow, but it wasn’t a good day today as key trend lines, especially on the S&P 500, were cracked. Good Trading! Harry |

Volatile Day Ends In The Plus Column
The stock market indices had an interesting volatile day, but the day ended in the plus column. The day started out, however, with a sharp dip to test secondary levels. They did hold, and at that point, they snapped back, tested resistance, and then backed off to consolidate and form wedges. It looks like they may have gone lower, but they held support, and by midday they started a rally, which took the Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 to new session highs. They backed off in the last hour, only to come on again in the last few minutes and closed firmly. Net on the day, the Dow was up 59.75 at 13,311.72. The S&P 500 was up 7.88 at 1443.69, just a penny off the high. The Nasdaq 100 was up 2.56 at 2693.55, 5 points off the high and 14 points off the low. Advance-declines were better than 2 to 1 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 3 to 2 positive on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was better than 3 to 1 positive on New York. Nasdaq had a 3 to 2 positive volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board showed the Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) jumping 4.45 to 124.09, and the ProShares UltraShort Silver (ZSL) popped 3.49 to 51.42, as gold and silver sold off sharply. Google Inc. (GOOG) was up 2.25 to 722.36, 4 points off the high, Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) up 2.47 to 129.72, at the session high, and Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) gained 3.51 to 261.50. Other gainers of note include on our board today included low-priced Ampal-American Israel Corp. (AMPL), up 1.47 to 3.60, or 69%, on only a half million shares, but 3000% higher volume than normal. Sequans Communications S.A. (SQNS) gained 43 cents to 2.71, or 19%. Dynatronics Corp. (DYNT) popped 51 cents to 3.58, or 17%. Alexza Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ALXA) ran up 73 cents to 6.22, or 13%, on 3 million shares. Winnebago Industries, Inc. (WGO), which we traded today, advanced 2.25 to 16.33, or 16%, on nearly a million shares. Steelcase Inc. (SCS) gained 1.40, or 12.93, or 12%, on 4.2 million shares. CarMax Inc. (KMX) closed up 3.13 to 37.97, or 9%, on 7 million shares. (ET) 1.14 to 20.30, and DineEquity, Inc. (DIN) 3.15 to 66.12 rounded out the leader board. On the downside, Apple Inc. (AAPL) lost 4.58 to 521.73, on negative news from Sumsang, Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC) was down 1.07 to 60.95, and SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA) gave back 1.22 to 43.32. The iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was down 1.11 to 29.00 even, and the VelocityShares 3x Long Silver ETN (USLV) lost 3.24 to 25.22. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were down early, snapped back just as quickly, and then went into a multi-hour consolidation, before breaking out midday. They rallied to the session highs midafternoon, and then pulled back near the close, only to snapback at the close on the S&P 500 in particular, the S&P 500 closing right at the session high or right near it. It was a good day for the indices as the support did hold and we are still in an uptrend in a rising, intermediate channel on the S&P 500. Today’s low at about 1432-3 zone, at this point, are probably going to be key support levels. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

The stock market indices started the week off with a bang. They ran up sharply from the get-go, and within minutes they hit their overhead resistance and backed off. The Nasdaq 100 came back much sharper because Apple Inc. (AAPL) was down on the session early on and then reversed. That helped the indices in a beautiful, 5-wave rally intraday, closing at the highs for the day going away on a big spike in the afternoon, particularly in the last half hour when they exploded. Net on the day, the Dow was up 102.83 at 13,237.38. The S&P 500 was up 16.92 at 1439.50. The Nasdaq 100 was up 36.17 at 2654.26. Nasdaq traded over 1.85 billion, which is big volume, and had a 2 to 1 positive volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board was mostly higher. Leading the way, Google Inc. (GOOG) was up 18.82 to 720.78, and Apple Inc. (AAPL) up 9.04 to 518.83, getting as high as 520 today. Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) popped 4.67 to 253.86. Financials were strong with Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) leading the way up 4.13 to 123.49. Swing trade Conns Inc. (CONN) jumped 1.31 to 29.76, reaching 29.95 at one point. The Home Depot, Inc. (HD), another recent swing trade, gained 1.25 to 63.31. International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) rose 1.86 to 193.62, Netflix Inc. (NFLX) 1.40 to 94.70, and Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC) 1.70 to 62.75. It was a big day for SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA), up 3.00 to 43.56. Large percent gainers included GenVec, Inc. (GNVC), which advanced 37 cents to 1.68, or 28%, on 1.5 million shares, a 6400% increase in volume. LiveDeal, Inc. (LIVE) was the big percent gainer today, up 1.44 to 4.99, or 40%. Velti Plc (VELT) gained 71 cents to 4.55, or 18 1/2%, on 4.5 million shares. Oncolytics Biotech Inc. (ONCY) rose 28 cents to 3.38, or 9%, on 1.6 million shares. OCZ Technology Group, Inc. (OCZ) snapped back 15 cents to 1.90, or 25%. VIVUS Inc. (VVUS) was a big gainer today, up 160 to 13.08, or 14%. Caribou Coffee Company, Inc. (CBOU) was acquired today, up 3.78 to 16.10, or 31%, on 8.9 million shares, and its competitor, Coffee Holding Co.Inc. (JVA) popped 83 cents to 7.84, or 12%, on 1 million shares. In addition, Hovnanian Enterprises Inc. (HOV) jumped 50 cents to 5.80 on 13 million shares. Standard Pacific Corp. (SPF), also in the industrial goods sector, ran 53 cents to 7.09. Tronox Incorporated (TROX) gained 1.60 to 17.37, YY Inc. (YY) 1.10 to 14.75, Polypore International Inc. (PPO) 3.25 to 44.21, G-III Apparel Group, Ltd. (GIII) 2.44 to 34.96, and SINA Corporation (SINA), which we traded, 3.32 to 48.65. Texas Industries Inc. (TXI) rose 2.95 to 50.40, Ryland Group Inc. (RYL) 2.24 to 35.85, and Cirrus Logic Inc. (BTU) 1.05 to 26.63, and the ProShares Ultra VIX Short-Term Fut ETF (UVXY) 1.41 to 19.05. Those were the only stocks down today on our board. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were up sharply at the get-go, pulled back sharply but held. They ran very hard midday, only to pull back quite sharply in the afternoon, held support, and then exploded into the close as short covering took over. Although the indices closed near 1431 S&P 500 and 2664-5 zone NDX, both of which are resistance levels, it sure looks positive for more upside going forward as the S&P 500 held its major trend line over the last few weeks. We’ll see how it goes on tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

Indices Edge Lower
The stock market indices suffered some losses today. They were down at the opening, and then rallied nicely early on, but rolled over hard. The NDX dropped from the morning highs and the session highs at 2689 to the afternoon lows at 2643, about 46 points, or a 1 1/2% drop. The S&P 500 dropped from its morning-rally high as well at 1432 down to 1416-7, about 16 points. It was not a pretty sight. In the last half hour they did manage to mount a 15-20 minute rally, only to back off again at the close. Net on the day, the Dow was down 74.73 at 13,170.72. The S&P 500 was down 9.03 at 1419.45, 12 points off the high . The Nasdaq 100 was down 20.56 at 2654.01, 30 points off the high. Advance-declines were 21 to 9 negative on the New York Stock Exchange, and 15 to 9 negative on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 3 to 1 negative on New York, with total volume of 647 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 1 3/4 billion and had a 4 to 3 negative plurality. TheTechTrader.com board was mixed, but mostly red on the main board. Leading the way to the downside on Nasdaq 100 was Apple Inc. (AAPL), down 9.31 to 529.69, reaching under 526 earlier, so about 4 points off the low and 8 points off the high. Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) was flat, down 51 cents to 251.25. Google Inc. (GOOG) managed to gain 5.14 to 702.70. Netflix Inc. (NFLX) was up 1.83 to 92.56. There were quite a few interesting gainers today on our board. Low-priced Oncolytics Biotech Inc. (ONCY) jumped as high as 3.85 at one point in the day, closing at 3.03, up 86 cents, or 40%, on 5.6 million shares, volume increasing 2700%. Telik Inc. (TELK) gained 37 cents to 2.13, or 21%, on 1.8 million shares. Paragon Shipping Inc. (PRGN), on financing news, popped 56 cents to 2.60, or 28%. Clearwire Corporation (CLWR), on a potential takeover, gained 41 cents to 3.16, or 15%, on 121 million shares. Other gainers of note included NII Holdings Inc. (NIHD) up 60 cents to 5.96, or 11%, on 8.2 million shares, and ZAGG Inc. (ZAGG) up 71 cents to 7.82, or 10%, on 2.8 million shares. Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (DAL) jumped 57 cents to 11.29. Silver had a fantastic day today, with the ProShares UltraShort Silver (ZSL) up 2.28 to 43.88. On the downside, there were very few losers. Universal Display Corp. (PANL) was down 1.05 to 25.91, and Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ONXX) gave back 1.33 to 80.77. VelocityShares 3x Long Silver ETN (USLV) dropped 2.95 to 32.71. The Direxion Daily Small Cap Bull 3X Shares (TNA) was down 1.14 to 58.44, and the Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) lost 1.83 to 111.91. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were up early, and then they sold off most of the session, until stabilizing late in the afternoon and bouncing back a bit, closing with losses for the session, and breaking initial support as well. The NDX was looking a little rougher than the S&P 500 as key overhead resistance at 2700, once again, detained the rally. Support now at 2640 and 2630 will be watched tomorrow on the Nasdaq 100. On the S&P 500, key support appears to be between 1410 and 1412, and beneath that, 1390-95 zone. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

Sloppy and Mixed
The stock market indices looked sloppy today, and ended flat and mixed. The day started out with a gap up, and then a pullback consolidation. The NDX acted much worse, severely testing support, but by mid-day did hold. So did the S&P 500, which came out of its consolidation range from the morning and the popped sharply to new highs for the entire rally, reaching 1438.59.
The market dropped in the afternoon after Bernanke spoke. The NDX on three different occasions by mid-day did not get through resistance in the 2694-95 area, and then rolled over hard, with both indices coming down, the NDX dropping from 2693 to 2668. The SPX dropped from 1438 and change down to 1427, a pretty steep drop, and then in the afternoon just a little bit of a snapback but closed way off their highs.
The Dow was down 2.99, nearly unchanged, at 13,245.45, 18 points off the low, but about 80 points off the high. The S&P 500 was up 0.64 at 1428.48, just 2 points of its low and 10 points off its high, and the Nasdaq 100 down 7.50 at 2674.57, 6 points off its low and 20 off its high.
Advance declines were negative by about 120 issues on the NYSE and 3 to 2 negative on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was about 3 to 2 positive on New York but 9 to 8 negative on Nasdaq.
So, a very mixed picture at the close, and so was the action on our board, and among high-tech stocks, with AAPL -2.39 to 539.00 (3 off its low but 9 off its high), GOOG +68 cents to 697.56, and AMZN +1.07 to 251.76.
Among other winners were NFLX +4.65 to 90.73 (reaching over 93 at one point) and ONXX +1.86 to 82.10, continuing yesterday's run.
FSLR reached our swing trade target at 33 today, another new rally high, closing +92 cents to 32.
Junior solars had a strong day, with SOL +45 cents to 1.87 (31.7%), DSTI +50 cents to 1.72 (41%), JKS +1.03 to 6.32 (19 1/2%), JASO +67 cents to 4.08 (19.6%), and TSL +35 cents to 3.76 (10.2%).
UNXL had a late rally +1.24 to 14.83 (+9%). NUGT, the gold miners ETF, advanced with gold, +90 cents to 11.64. INSA was +1.83 to 27.52, and GDI +3.49 to 72.98 (on merger/takeover rumor).
On the downside, CIE was -2.00 to 25.45 on financing news (a big bond issue), and IBM -1.25 to 192.95. So the larger-cap stocks, including AAPL and AMZN, did have a slow day.
However, there weren't many changes of a negative nature on our board today.
Stepping back and reviewing the patterns, major resistance was tested and failed today on the Nasdaq 100, so we'll have to see what the consequences of that are tomorrow. Certainly a negative divergence at the very least.
Good trading!

Indices Close Higher Despite Afternoon Slide
The stock market indices had an up day today. It was a sharp one early on, but the afternoon slide took them way back off the highs, although they did bounce back in the last 30-40 minutes to firm up the gains. The day started out with big gaps up, and then they ran through key resistance short-term and eventually got up late morning to very important overhead resistance going back two months now on the Nasdaq 100 at 2700. The S&P 500 resistance around the 1434 area was also tested. They then moved for a couple hours in a coiling-type consolidation that looked bullish. When Harry Reid indicated that the fiscal cliff was not going to be resolved by Christmas, the indices then rolled over hard, the NDX dropping 19 points and the S&P 500 dropping about 8 points in that same period of time. In the last 30-40 minutes they bounced back to test resistance and closed firm. Net on the day, the Dow was up 78.48 at 13,248.36, about 58 points off the high, 78 points off the low. The S&P 500 was up 9.29 at 1417.84, 7 points off the high and 9 points off the low. The Nasdaq 100 was up 34.50 at 2682.07, 14 points off the high and 18 points off the low. Advance-declines were a little better than 2 to 1 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 2 1/2 to 1 positive on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 3 to 1 positive on New York, with total volume of 570 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 1.83 billion and had a 14 to 4 positive volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board was mostly gainers. Leading the way to the upside, Apple Inc. (AAPL) was up 11.57 to 541.39, and reached as high as 549.56. Amazon Inc. (AMZN) jumped 2.92 to 250.69, and Google Inc. (GOOG) was up 11.46 to 696.88. Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC) on short-covering was up 4.45 to 63.25, Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ONXX) up 3.04 to 80.24, International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) 1.58 to 194.20, Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) 1.85 to 118.86, and Cree, Inc. (CREE) 1.17 to 34.69. The Direxion Daily Small Cap Bull 3X Shares (TNA) jumped 1.79 to 60.58, and the Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) gained 1.28 to 112.46. There were some large-percent gainers on our board today. Low-priced BG Medicine, Inc. (BGMD), which we traded today, popped 2.07 to 3.40, or 155%, on 9.2 million shares, a 7500% increase in volume. Acura Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ACUR), which we also traded, snapped back another 1.04 to 3.49, or 43%, on 10 million shares, an 8800% increase in volume. Many of the junior biotech stocks that we follow had a big day today. Low-priced GTX Inc. (GTXI) gained 59 cents to 4.50, or 15%. Celsion Corp. (CLSN) advanced 99 cents to 8.27, or 13.6%, on 3.9 million shares. Oncothyreon Inc (ONTY) climbed 57 cents to 4.59, or 14%, on 1.8 million shares. Synta Pharmaceuticals Corp. (SNTA) ran 85 cents to 8.80, or 11%. Raptor Pharmaceuticals Corp. (RPTP) thrust 65 cents to 5.78, or 13%. Solazyme, Inc. (SZYM) bounced 78 cents to 8.27, or 10%, on 1.5 million shares, and Audience, Inc. (ADNC) gained 83 cents to 9.55, or 10%. Other gainers of note included WebMD Health Corp. (WBMD) was up 1.60 to 15.45, Tronox Incorporated (TROX) 1.15 to 16.04, NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) 1.22 to 25.04, NetSuite Inc. (N) 3.35 to 63.38, Homeowners Choice, Inc. (HCI) 1.01 to 20.24, Urban Outfitters Inc. (URBN) 1.65 to 38.65, Fusion-io, Inc. (FIO) 1.20 to 23.10, and Cirrus Logic Inc. (CRUS) 1.65 to 29.28. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices gapped up and ran hard in the morning, a very, very strong rally, indeed. They pulled back, and then backed and filled in wedge patterns, but broke down hard in the afternoon, only to snap back late in the session to salvage a good part of the gains. It was not a bad day, but we have overhead, key resistance at 2700 NDX and 1434 S&P 500 to be aware of and to be watching over the next few days. Good Trading! Harry |

Decent Monday Session
The stock market indices started off the day with a little bit of a pullback, and then they tested support quickly and successfully. When that occurred, the indices rallied in a 3-wave move that took the S&P 500 slightly to resistance at the 1420 level, reaching 1421 3/4, and then consolidated for about an hour. The Nasdaq 100 ran up to 2661, or so, and then they both pulled back midday. At the end of the day they rallied back to close positive on the session, but barely on the S&P 500. Net on the day, the Dow was up 14.83 at 13,169.66, about 26 points off the high and 30 points off the low. The S&P 500 was up .49 at 1418.56, 3 points off the high and 3 points off the low. The Nasdaq 100 was up 7.03 at 2647.57, 15 points off the high and 15 points off the low, so mid-range as well. Advance-declines were better by 300 issues on the New York Stock Exchange, and better by 350 issues on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was slightly positive on New York, with total volume of 560 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 1.5 billion and had a 2 to 1 positive volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board was active and a lot of stocks were up dramatically, but pulling on the Nasdaq 100 today was Apple Inc. (AAPL), down 3.43 to 529.82. Amazon Inc. (AMZN) was down 5.50 to 247.77, closing near the low. Google Inc. (GOOG) was up early, came back down, and managed to hold onto a 1.21 gain to 685.42. Molycorp, Inc. (MCP) was the star today, up 1.76 to 10.70, and Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC) was up 2.78 to 58.80. The key today was some of the low-priced biotech stocks and coal stocks. Acura Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ACUR) exploded 1.02 to 2.45, or 71%, on 2.9, million shares, a 3,370% increase in volume. Uni-Pixel, Inc. (UNXL), another star of the day, gained 5.32 to 15.07, or 54%, on 3.2 million shares, a 5,000% increase in volume. CombiMatrix Corporation (CBMX) had a great follow-through day, going from 1.75 to 10.35, or 20%, and went as high as 14.14, on 2.9 million shares, an increase of 18,500% increase in volume. In addition, low-priced Celldex Therapeutics, Inc. (CLDX) jumped 1.41 to 6.93, or 25 1/2%, on 9.8 million shares. Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (INFI) popped 4.83 to 27.35, or 21%, on 3.9 million shares. Ruckus Wireless, Inc. (RKUS) closed up 1.36 to 18.96, or 8%, on 1 million shares. Coal stocks were firm, with Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. (ANR) up 81 cents to 9.10, Walter Energy, Inc. (WLT) up 2.13 to 36.34, and several others in that group as well. In addition, ABIOMED, Inc. (ABMD) was up 95 cents to 13.44, Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc. (OREX) up 43 cents to 5.28, low-priced MER Telemanagement Solutions Ltd. (MTSL) 32 cents to 3.66, and Concur Technologies, Inc. (CNQR) 3.91 to 65.73. On the downside, point-plus losers included The Home Depot, Inc. (HD) down 1.41 to 63.04, and Netflix Inc. (NFLX) down 1.18 to 84.80. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, a 3-wave rally early on took the indices to new rally highs on the S&P 500, but not even close on the NDX. That divergence brought them back down in the afternoon, only to bounce late in the session, and then pulled back into the close to pare back the late gains. It was a decent Monday session. We’ll see how it goes on tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

Apple and Google Pressure Market in Mixed Session
The stock market indices ended mixed on the session, but quite volatile with a lot of pressure from the Nasdaq 100, particularly, Apple Inc. (AAPL) and Google Inc. (GOOG), which were both down sharply. The day started out with a gap up, and then they sold off fairly sharply, until midmorning when the S&P 500 started to bounce, but the NDX, at that point, couldn’t do more than just stabilize. As the afternoon approached, the NDX started to move up a little, reaching key resistance near 2645, and near 1416 on the S&P 500. They backed off in the last hour, only to come on again at the close. Net on the day, the Dow was up 81.09 at 13,155.13, 2 points off the high and about 80 points off the low. The S&P 500 closed above 1400 at 1418.07 up 4.13, 2 points off the high and 7 points off the low. The Nasdaq 100 was down 16.76 at 2640.54, 31 points off the high and 9 points off the low. Advance-declines were 16 to 13 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and about 160 issues negative on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 2 1/2 to 1 positive on New York, with total volume of 570 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 1.5 billion and had a 3 to 2 negative plurality, declining volume over advancing volume. TheTechTrader.com board was mixed with Apple Inc. (AAPL) down 13.99 to 533.25, 3 points off its low, and Google Inc. (GOOG) down 6.92 to 684.21, 2 points off its low, which kept pressure on that index all day. Amazon Inc. (AMZN) did close flat however, down just 10 cents to 253.27. There were some spectacular moves on our board today. CombiMatrix Corporation (CBMX) came out with a major scientific discovery, or at least a fact sheet indicating that their technology should be used. It closed at 8.60, up 6.63, or 336.5%, on 1.3 million shares, a 46,000% increase in volume. Good Times Restaurants Inc. (GTIM) gained 77 cents to 2.72, or 40.5%, on 1 million shares. In addition, Groupon, Inc. (GRPN), which we traded today, was up 88 cents to 4.69, or 23%, on 50.5 million shares. Uni-Pixel, Inc. (UNXL), a stock we picked and traded today, jumped 1.49 to 9.75, or 18%, on 1.1 million shares. The GEO Group, Inc. (GEO), one of our swing trades, did well, up 1.49 to 9.75, or 18%, on 1.1 million shares. Other gainers of note included Ruckus Wireless, Inc. (RKUS), a new IPO, up 1.20 to 17.60. Sears Holdings Corporation (SHLD) was up 2.71 to 42.96, Approach Resources, Inc. (AREX) 1.06 to 24.20, Universal Display Corp. (PANL) 1.26 to 26.70, Workday, Inc. (WDAY) 2.80 to 51.20, and Yelp, Inc. (YELP) 96 cents to 19.05. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were up early, but came down hard in the morning, bounced around midday, tried to rally in the afternoon, but the Nasdaq 100 wouldn’t cooperate, its weakness being AAPL and GOOG. The S&P 500 and Dow continued to press higher and closed near the afternoon highs. They ended the day up on the session, while the Nasdaq 100 was down nearly 16 today. It was a mixed day, so we’ll see what that brings next week. Good Trading! Harry |

Choppy Up-Session Closes Near Highs
The stock market indices had an up day. It was a little choppy, but ended up near the highs for the day on a very positive note. The day started out with a move down, testing yesterday’s lows on the Nasdaq 100 at 2625 and holding, and getting nowhere on the S&P 500 near 1406, with the low yesterday at 1398. So, a substantially higher low on the S&P 500. That resulted in a strong snapback rally. The NDX jumped from 2624 to 2653, nearly 40 points, in the next couple hours. The S&P 500 jumped from 1406 to just beneath 1414. In the afternoon they backed and filled in a couple tests of lows and highs, held, and then late in the day they came on with the S&P 500 and Dow closing near the session highs going away. Net on the day, the Dow was up 8.60 at 13,043.09, 2 points off the high. The S&P 500 was up 4.66 at 1413.94, just a penny off the high and 8 points off the low. The Nasdaq 100 was up 16.94 at 2654.83, 7 points off the high and 33 points off the low. Advance-declines were positive by 150 issues on the New York Stock Exchange, and positive by just 2 issues on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 3 to 2 positive on New York. Nasdaq had a better than 2 to 1 positive volume ratio. TheTechTrader.com board was mostly higher. Leading the way among the large-cap stocks, Apple Inc. (AAPL) exploded to nearly 553, backed off to 538.40, and closed at 547.24, up 8.45, on 42 million shares. That’s strong volume for AAPL. Google was up 3.31 to 691.13, 7 points off the low. However, Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) was off a fraction, down 59 cents to 253.37. International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) was up 1.05 to 189.70, Netflix Inc. (NFLX) up 2.80 to 86.17, Cheniere Energy, Inc. (LNG) 1.23 to 18.00 on positive news, Universal Display Corp. (PANL) 2.48 to 25.44, and Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC), on short-covering, 1.42 to 55.01. Those were not the only stocks that did well on our board today as there were many gainers. They included Starbucks Corporation (SBUX) up 2.91 to 53.70, Garmin Ltd. (GRMN) up 2.28 to 41.99, and Akamai Technologies, Inc. (AKAM) 3.56 to 39.06, all of which we traded today. Other gainers of note included low-priced Net 1 Ueps Technologies Inc. (GMCR), which gave back 3.39 to 37.78, after reaching as high as 41.52 this morning. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were up in the morning, consolidated midday, closed firm near the highs for the day on the Dow and S&P 500, and just a little bit off on the NDX. All three indices closed with gains, although technicals were a little on the flat side today. We’ll just have to see if we can get up to overhead resistance, which is looming here at about the 2665.70 zone on the NDX, and 1418.20 on the S&P 500. Good Trading! Harry |

Nasdaq Lags in Mixed Session
The stock market indices had a strange session, with the Dow and S&P 500 up and the Nasdaq 100 down sharply, due to Apple Inc. (AAPL) dropping 37 points and closing near the session lows today, on 36.6 million shares. Apple put a lot of pressure on the market, particularly late in the day when it rolled over. The day started out with a gap down and a sharp sell-off that reached 2625 NDX and 1398 S&P 500. They then rallied very sharply, took back all of the gains and losses, and then some, on the S&P 500, but were unable to do so on the NDX. When that occurred, they backed and filled and formed wedges. Late in the session day they did break out but could not take out the highs, and then rolled over sharply into the close to pare way back the gains for today. Net on the day, the Dow was up 76.42 at 13,034.49, 55 points off the high. The S&P 500 was up 2.22 at 1409.27, 6 points off its high. The Nasdaq 100 was down 31.00 at 2637.89, 26 points off its high. Advance-declines were 15 to 14 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 13 to 10 negative on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was better than 2 to 1 positive on New York, with total volume of 735 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 1 3/4 billion and had a 9 to 8 positive plurality. TheTechTrader.com board was mixed, with the NDX being dragged down by Apple Inc. (AAPL) 37.05 to 538.79. Google Inc. (GOOG) didn’t help much, down 3.21 to 687.82. However, Amazon Inc. (AMZN) managed to gain 1.47 to 253.96. There were some outstanding stocks on our board today. Cobalt International Energy, Inc. (CIE), which we traded, was up 4.43 to 28.21, just pennies off its high on 7 million shares, after announcing an oil discovery. Other gainers of note included quite a few large-percent gainers, mostly low-priced stocks. Mitek Systems Inc. (MITK) was the big winner on our board today, up 82 cents to 3.22, or 34%, on 2 million shares, on news of their mobile, photo, bill-payment solutions with U.S. banks. Net 1 Ueps Technologies Inc. (UEPS) gained 83 cents to 4.05 or 26% on 6.7 million shares. Cyclacel Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (CYCC) popped 1.31 to 7.68, or 20.5%, on 2.2 million shares. (SEAC) gained 92 cents to 10.00 even, or 10%. Also, VeriFone Systems, Inc (PAY) was up 2.29 to 32.54, Western Digital Corporation (WDC) up 2.44 to 36.03, and Citigroup, Inc. (C), which led the financials, 2.17 to 36.46. Walter Energy, Inc. (WLT) rose 1.95 to 31.66, and Peabody Energy Corp. (BTU) 1.12 to 26.06. Energy XXI (Bermuda) Limited (EXXI), in a strong oil sector, was up 2.03 to 33.37, and Bank of America Corporation (BAC), on a major breakout, jumped 56 cents to 10.46, on 430 million shares. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were down sharply early, up sharply midday, backed off and consolidated in the afternoon, tried to break out but couldn’t get through, and then rolled over into the close. Net-net, the Dow and S&P 500 were up, and the Nasdaq 100 was down. It was somewhat of a positive day on up/down volume on both exchanges, but the advance declines were kind of mixed. We’ll see how it goes on tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |

Indices Roll Over After Big Up-Gaps
The stock market indices started off the week on a negative note, although they started off the session with big gaps to the upside, especially on Nasdaq 100. The NDX actually went to new rally highs to just under 2700 at 2695.04. That resistance proved formidable as they rolled over the rest of the session in a down channel, closing near the session lows. Net on the day, the Dow was down 59.98 at 12,965.60, 122 points off the high. The S&P 500 was down 6.72 at 1409.46, a point off the low. The Nasdaq 100 was down 6.04 at 2671.84. Volatile, Consolidating-Type Session
The stock market indices had a very volatile, consolidating-type session. The day started out with a gap up. The indices ran hard to near resistance just under 2690 NDX and just under 1420 on the S&P 500. They came down in a 3-wave decline, the 3rd wave having a very sharp pullback that filled the entire gap on the Nasdaq 100 and tested key support at 1309 on the S&P 500. They then rallied back in 5-wave moves back up to the morning snapback highs, couldn’t get through, and rolled over with a bounce just before the close. A last 15-minute pullback once again brought them back down to earth, but with a positive close on the day. Net on the day, the Dow was up 40.93 at 13,026.04. The S&P 500 was up 6.31 at 1416.24. The Nasdaq 100 was up 15.12 at 2680.39. Advance-declines were a little less than 3 to 1 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and the same on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was better than 3 to 1 positive on New York, with total volume of 640 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 1.7 billion and nearly had a 3 to 1 positive volume ratio, advancing volume over declining volume. It was a very good day technically despite the lack of price progress. However, a lot of individual stocks we follow did well today. TheTechTrader.com board was mostly higher. Apple Inc. (AAPL) was up 6.42 to 589.36, Google Inc. (GOOG) jumped 8.22 to 691.89, and Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) popped 4.16 to 251.27. Those market generals led the Nasdaq 100 higher. Other gainers of note on our board today included China HGS Real Estate Inc. (HGSH), up 1.45 to 4.35, or 50%, 2000% more volume, on nearly a million shares. Low-priced THQ Inc. (THQI), a video game developer, spiked 41 cents to 1.49, or 38%, on 1.3 million shares. Low-priced Acura Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ACUR) gained 53 cents to 1.95, or 37%, on 1.6 million shares. Coldwater Creek Inc. (CWTR), which we traded today, advanced 86 cents to 5.73, or 18%, on 1.4 million shares. James River Coal Co. (JRCC) ran 33 cents to 3.54, or 10%, on 4.5 million shares. Infoblox Inc. (BLOX), which develops, markets, and sells automated network control solutions worldwide, closed up 4.12 to 18.07, or 30%, on 4.1 million shares. Semtech Corporation (SMTC) jumped 2.94 to 27.86, or 12%, on 2.6 million shares. In addition, McMoRan Exploration Co. (MMR) was up 71 cents to 8.90, Hercules Offshore, Inc. (HERO) up 38 cents to 5.03, New Oriental Education & Technology Group (EDU) 1.60 to 20.96, Aruba Networks, Inc. (ARUN) 1.35 to 19.83, and Pandora Media, Inc. (P) 61 cents to 8.79. Molycorp, Inc. (MCP) was up 59 cents to 8.81, Zipcar, Inc. (ZIP) up 53 cents to 8.29, VirnetX Holding Corp (VHC) 2.10 to 33.84, Tata Motors Limited (TTM) 1.39 to 25.60, Express Inc. (EXPR) 72 cents to 14.87, Jazz Pharmaceuticals plc (JAZZ) 2.15 to 53.58, Ariad Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ARIA) 1.03 to 22.56, Stewart Information Services Corporation (STC) 1.22 to 27.57, Medivation, Inc. (MDVN) 2.06 to 52.02, and The Kroger Co. (KR) 1.20 to 26.26 on good earnings. VelocityShares 3x Long Silver ETN (USLV) gained 1.71 to 38.64. On the downside, the only point-plus loser on our board today was the ProShares UltraShort Silver (ZSL), down 1.31 to 39.86. Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices were choppy and moved in 10 different directions today, gapping up at the opening, coming down hard midmorning, and then rallying back in the afternoon, only to fall back near the close. But net-net it was a positive day for the indices, and a positive consolidation day, indeed. After the run-up we’ve had of late, the market continues to act well and had broken another key resistance level today at the 1409-10 range on the S&P 500 and held above it all session. Let’s see what happens tomorrow. Good Trading! Harry |
